NPC & PC Attacks

NPC and PC attacks are categorized as melee or ranged with reference to their maximum attack range as determined by the NPC attack range or PC weapon range respectively. When the range is ≤ 3 cells, the skill is melee. When the range is ≥ 4 cells, the skill is ranged.

NPC Skills

When cast by monsters, skills are categorized with reference to the distance between the user and the enemy. When the distance is ≤ 3 cells, the skill is melee. When the distance is ≥ 4 cells, the skill is ranged. However, some skills are forced melee or ranged regardless of distance.

PC Skills

When cast by players, skills are categorized with reference to their cast range. When the radius is ≤ 3 cells, the skill is melee. When the radius is ≥ 4 cells, the skill is ranged. This can lead to unintuitive behavior, e.g. Land Mine and Claymore Trap are melee attacks when used by players. Skills with a cast range that scales with level, e.g. Grimtooth, are situationally melee or ranged dependent on their level. However, some skills are forced melee or ranged regardless of their cast range.

Status & Knockback Mechanics

Although damage is prevented, status and ItmBreak still apply to protected entities, e.g. a protected entity may be stunned by Bash. The application order of knockback and damage is determined on an individual basis. In most cases, knockback is applied after damage and consequently is prevented. However, the following skills apply knockback before damage: Bowling Bash and Smite. In these cases, damage may be prevented if the knockback destination cell is protected instead. Finally, Raging Palm Strike applies damage before knockback but the knockback is not prevented.

Soul Link

If empowered by a Wizard Soul Link, Safety Wall does not require a skill catalyst.
