Alchemists specialize in crafting items, which are consumed as catalysts through their skills. The most powerful of these is to bestow chemical protection to a player's helm, shield, armor, and/or weapon slots, protecting them from divestment or damage. Their crafted items may be used by other players and are produced through a single skill, Prepare Potion.

They may also craft a homunculus companion, which must be independently leveled and maintained. The homunculus will assume one of four types: Amistr, Filir, Lif, or Vanilmirth. The homunculus is an independent entity from the Alchemist and will assist them, and initially, follows a default AI. This may be changed to a player AI, written in Lua, through the /hoai command.

Alchemists build on the Merchant's strengths with more effective item utilization, and through Potion Research and Aid Potion, can double the restorative effects of potions. While their offensive skills are powerful, their item catalysts impede their applicability. However, this deficiency is mitigated by their homunculus, should they desire to utilize it. Upon reaching base level 99, Alchemists may transcend with the path to a Biochemist.
