A Pure Potter (potter) is an Alchemist or Biochemist build dedicated to maximizing Prepare Potion success rate. This is accomplished through careful review of the Prepare Potion formula (detailed below), meticulous planning, and assiduous curation of necessary equipment and support characters. The requisite effort, inclusive of: initial equipment and character acquisition, persistent supply chain orchestration, and economy of scale is strongly coded for guild rather than solo play.
While a potter increases the rate raw materials are transformed into potions and skill catalysts, the predominant build justification is the exponentially higher yield of Rank Points. For example, an 85% and 90% Condensed White Potion success rate lends to an expected value (E.V.) of 3.383 and 4.583 Rank Points per attempt respectively. Consequently, while the potter produced a comparable number of potions with the same materials (+5%, 90 / 85), they gained significantly more Rank Points (+35%, 4.583 / 3.383). This translates to a reduced effort in gaining, and maintaining, a Top 10 ranked position. When this position is contested, this advantage is of great benefit.
For all intents and purposes, competitive potters should be Biochemists as they have access to more status points, job levels and bonuses, and equipment relative to Alchemists. Consequently, this guide is written for Biochemists. While the presented approach is applicable to Alchemists, it will require adjustment for their reduced status points and equipment pools.

Skills, with the exception of Improve Concentration (discussed in Brew Equipment & Cards), provide a constant and independent increase. As skill bonuses are independent, i.e. do not reduce/increase or remove/enable other benefits (e.g. the presence of Gloria does not influence build stat allocation or equipment), they should be used whenever available. Like skills, food provides a constant and independent bonus. Unlike skills, food is consumed on use and is difficult to maintain for prolonged periods. As food is relatively difficult to obtain, build benchmarks are presented with and without food.
Equipment & Cards (gear) provide an opportunity to increase the potter's attributes. Unlike skills and food, gear is contested by other items that occupy the same slot, e.g. the potter must select the best of two weapons instead of utilizing both. While selecting gear, with the exception of two inconsequential caveats, the potter may safely select the most beneficial option for each slot independent of other selections. These two caveats are the preference to DEX over LUK and the Queen Set, which are summarized below.
Box of Gloom (Improve Concentration 1) provides a proportional DEX bonus (+3%) to DEX derived from base attributes, job bonuses, and equipment. Equipment enhancements, e.g. cards and stat enchantments, do not contribute to this bonus. The Box of Gloom breakpoints are 36:+1, 72:+2, 102:+3, and 138:+4. This preference is inconsequential as 102 DEX is readily obtained without equipment and 138 DEX is only obtainable with Mjolnir (which easily satisfies this requirement).
The only notable equipment/card combination is Queen Set, composed of the Zealotus Card and Injustice Card. As the Zealotus Card is effectively uncontested in its class (Shield Cards), it becomes convenient to shortcut the combination benefit (+3 LUK) to the first Injustice Card. Thus, although equipment selection is interdependent in theory, it is intradepedent in practice.
To guide observations, three reference gear loadouts are provided and supplemented with a per-slot breakdown of desirable equipment. The predominant of these observations is that increasing success rate through gear is more difficult than character progression, e.g. it is easier to procure 20 job levels than a Mjolnir. However, given the relative ease of leveling characters, Rank competition is frequently determined by equipment and supplies.
Marionette Control (MC) significantly alters optimal stat allocation and consequently it is convenient to discuss the optimal Non-MC or Solo (SO) and MC builds separately. While the SO-build requires less characters, it expresses a significantly reduced success rate and cannot be "retrofit" to a MC-build later. This build path is not recommended.
Without the presence of Marionette Control, stat allocation is straight forward and is defined by the greedy algorithm DEXcost ≤ LUKcost ≤ 2 × INTcost. This is easily derived with reference the Prepare Potion success formula (where DEX and LUK yield twice the benefit as INT) and status increment costs using gradient ascent. The preference to DEX over LUK, rather than DEX or LUK, originates from the Box of Gloom (Improve Concentration 1) bonus which is modified by DEX (but not LUK). Following the aforementioned algorithm to completion yields the presented build.

Marionette Control (MC) enables a Minstrel or Starlet to temporarily donate up to half of their base attributes to the potter with the constraint that it will not increase the potter's attributes beyond 99 at the time of application. MC potters optimize success rate through careful allocation of status points for themselves and their performer. This allocation is defined by: negative status gear, the Biochemist's job bonuses, and Box of Gloom.
It is desirable to reduce the potter's attributes as much as possible before MC is applied to maximize the bonus. This is achieved by: dispelling beneficial effects, removing brewing gear, and equipping negative status gear. Negative status gear is equipment and cards that reduce the wearer's attributes and is available for both INT and LUK. Consequently, it is encouraged for MC to provide bonuses to attributes elevated by negative status gear.
The potter's base attributes and job bonuses cannot be removed prior to MC. Consequently, it is encouraged for MC to bolster the two attributes with the weakest job bonus to maximize the net success rate. At j70, the Biochemist job bonuses are: +7 INT, +14 DEX, and +11 LUK.
Lastly, the Box of Gloom (Improve Concentration 1) proportional DEX bonus is not inclusive of DEX from external effects. Consequently, it is encouraged for the potter to have a high base DEX to maximize the proportional bonus.
To maximize success rate, a potter must max DEX and supplement INT and LUK through MC. This conclusion is supported by available negative status gear (available for INT and LUK but not DEX), the Biochemist job bonuses (where DEX > LUK & INT), and the Box of Gloom proportional DEX bonus (which excludes external DEX).
As discussed above, optimal builds max DEX and supplement INT and LUK through MC. However, the precise base attribute breakdown for each character is not presented. This breakdown is presented here.
While it is possible to dedicate a MC user solely to brewing, it is preferred that the character provide secondary benefits. While both Minstrels and Starlets have performances that scale with INT (M|F) and LUK (M|F), only the latter's LUK performance has meaningful scaling. Consequently, it is encouraged that the MC user is a Starlet with 99 bINT and bLUK. To simplify coordination efforts, it is convenient if they are the potter's Guild Leader with access to Sharp Gaze.
With MC providing up to +49 INT and LUK, the potter must achieve 99 bDEX and 50 (total) INT and LUK. Accounting for max job bonuses and potential negative status gear, this equates to 55 bINT and 44 bLUK. Excess INT and LUK will not increase the success rate as they decrement the MC bonus. This lends to 311 "surplus" status points at bLv 99 which may be freely assigned to other attributes without decreasing the success rate. Where to assign these status points is user preference. With this context in mind, consider the following options:
